Personal, Social and Emotional Development
This area is concerned with the development of a sense of self worth, acceptable forms of social behaviour, co-operation and respect for the feeling of others, as well as learning to clearly express their own thoughts and ideas. This area underpins all other early learning goals.
Communication, Language and Literacy
Songs, rhymes, stories and poems are used to develop the key foundation skills for communication, language and learning.
Mathematics
The development of an understanding of mathematical principles will be encouraged through stories, songs, games and imaginative play. This enables children to become comfortable with number, shapes, space and concepts such as ‘more than’, ‘smaller’.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Through exploration and observation children will learn about the world around them and ask questions. This area of learning extends to culture and beliefs as well as the physical environment and provides the foundation for future learning of history, geography, science and technology.
Physical Development
The use of indoor and outdoor play equipment and activities will develop greater mobility, physical control, gross and fine motor skills and awareness of space. Such activities include puzzles, sandpit, and playdoh, and music and movement.
Creative development
The exploration of colours, textures, music, dance, and making things will engage all the senses of the children and encourage them to express their own ideas and feelings.
